GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) — A cross country tribute to veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice stopped in Grand Rapids Tuesday.

George Lutz, who founded Honor and Remember, presented Pamela Bird of Lowell with a personalized flag outside the Veterans Memorial this afternoon.

Her brother, Specialist Harold Harper, was just 20-years-old when he died in the Vietnam War.

Lutz wants that flag to be used across the country to recognize the lives lost during wars.

“I believe that we have been programmed to think that Memorial Day was our day for remembrance,” says Lutz. “For those families, friends, veterans who have lost so precious a life, Memorial Day is every day. They never forget.”

The state of Virginia has already adopted the flag. Lutz hopes every state will follow.

The flag will eventually travel to Lansing and then to the White House.
